Who is RGAE? RGAE stands for Robert George Avery Ellis, Hanging Rock Winery's Chief Winemaker. Every year Rob has 1 particular barrel of wine which he feels stands out above the rest and should be kept seperate and given the respect it deserves.
2015 was regarded as the vintage of the decade across most of Victoria and the Macedon Ranges is no exception. Being such a great year, it's the perfect time to make an early release Pinot, a style of Pinot that shows off the fruit more than any other.
This wine is made in the style of Beaujolais Nouveau. It's made by fermenting the fruit as whole bunches and letting the fruit go through 100% Carbonic Maceration (which gives the wine richness and softness). It's made to be drunk as a young fresh wine, perfect for summer. It may even be served a little bit chilled.
Colour: Crimson red.
Nose: A mixture of lifted floral aromas with cardamon and raspberries
Palate: This is a very fresh and lively wine. There is plenty of upfront berry fruit characters with refreshing acidity and a slight stalkiness. The palate is rich and full with crisp undertones.
Awards & Reviews: None yet, but there is only 40 dozen of it, so wine writers won't get much of a look in.
