Sauvs blancs seem so rare these days in a sea of gris so they are a real treat, in our household at least. And so we treated ourselves, several times.

How apt for a wine for the occasion, so help save Dan and a bit of Victoria while enjoying a warming cabernet and dreaming of gold.
2019 was a traditionally warm and dry year in Heathcote. This is one of Heathcote’s major draw cards as there is little chance of disease which means that the vineyards can be run close to, if not organically. The resulting wine is what we come to expect from Heathcote, it’s rich and powerful with great tannin structure and a natural acid balance.Â
Wine Rating: 92
A good year for Jim Jim Pinot Noir, a warmer and drier year which is a luxury in one of the coldest wine growing regions in Australia, and a site that was planted with an aspect and orientation that was focused on sparkling wines.
The wine was fermented with 25% whole bunches and aged in a mix of new and old French Oak for 16 months.
The nose gives black cherry and plum fruits with lifted spice. The palate shows a serious wine with berry compote and sandalwood like spice, tannins are fine and acidity is focused which keeps things fresh and flowing. The finish has generosity and length and is more dark than red cherry and has plenty of structure.

Review: Hanging Rock Winery - 2019 Jim Jim Pinot Noir - When an icon like Hanging Rock states "this is the best Pinot Noir we can make", boy do we take notice. And they're not overstating. Great texture carries notes of boysenberry jam balanced by dark spices and forest shade. This broad wine has great texture and length, yet still comes off smooth and satisfyingly delicious. A complete package Pinot and a masterpiece of integration!
Our 2021 The Jim Jim Three has received 95 points and Gold Medal in Class 5- All Other White Varieties at this year's Ballarat Wine Show! It was just beaten by the Jim Jim Sauvignon Blanc for 'Best other White Wine Trophy' at the same show.Â
Our 2019 Cambrian Rise Heathcote Shiraz has received 95 points and Gold Medal in Class 14- 2019 & Older Shiraz at this year's Ballarat Wine Show!!
The judges notes were: Great colour, concentrated fresh dark fruits and earthy spice notes. Excellent tannin drive and fruit/ oak balance. Excellent finish.Â
Jane Faulkner Review: A well-modulated wine, right through from the flavours to the tannins. It has all the regional dark fruits and spice and richness, yet offers some refinement. Full bodied, yes, but smooth across the palate. The tannins are ripe and detailed. The oak integrated and overall impressive.
For a sparkling whose base wine consists of 50 per cent reserve wine from 1998, it is astounding that this marvelous and complex drop doesn’t cost more. Less costly than most grower Champagne, it has layers of brioche and toasty notes. hangingrock.com.au
